About V Sivalingam

Taekwondo grandmaster and former National Sports Institute psychologist V Sivalingam, 59. died at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre on Aug 7, 2021. He also suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive nervous system disease which hampers the nerve cells in the brain and spine. Sivalingam was a triple World Taekwondo Championship gold medalist in the lightweight division, winning in 1990 (Montreal), 1992 (Pyongyang) and 1994 (Kuala Terengganu). He was also a known yoga practitioner and set up yoga centres and taekwondo centres throughout the Klang Valley. The International Taekwondo Federation Malaysia said his death was a loss to the nation and that he was "so special in Malaysia taekwondo". "We will miss the presence of a truly loveable and kind person who had devoted his entire life to promoting ITF Taekwondo in Malaysia," it said.
