About Jamal Mohamed Kadir Mydin

Jamal Mohamed Kadir Mydin, 85, died at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah, Alor Setar at 1.30am on Sept 25, 2021. He also suffered from kidney disease and hypertension. At the time of his death, his wife, Samsan Beevi Jamal Mohamed@Samsu, 68, was also treated for Covid-19 at the same hospital. He is remembered as the founder of famous popia stall, Popia Jamal. He founded it in 1936 and initially sold in front of Masjid Zahir, Alor Setar. The popia was the late Sultan Abdul Halim's favourite, and was a feature at events at Istana Anak Bukit. After Jamal Mohamad fell ill, his two children took over his business and sold at Jalan Tun Abdul Razak near Taman Koperasi, where they are still in business.
