About Datuk Ahmad Mohd Nor

Datuk Ahmad Mohd Nor, 96, died at 12.57am at Hospital Kuala Nerang, Kedah, on Sept 15, 2021. He left behind a wife, Datin Wan Salehah Wan Ibrahim, 83, and eight children. He was known as Tok Guru Pak Teh Mad, and was a renown religious scholar. He was founded religious school, Pondok Ahmadiah in 1961, and later founded Maktab Mahmud Padang Terap. He was educated at Sekolah Melayu Padang Terap; Madrasah Sa'adatun Daroian, Merbok; Pondok Pulau Rotan, Nako Nambua; Madrasah Al-Islamiah, Gajah Mati and Madrasah Soulatiyyah in Mecca. Among his teachers were Tuan Guru Haji Abdul Rahman Merbok (Pondok Merbok), Tok Mogoi (Pondok Mogoi), Tuan Guru Pak Chu Him, who was also his father-in-law (Pondok Gajah Mati) and Pak Da Eil Makkah. He was born in Kampung Tanjung, Mukim Padang Terap. According to Berita Harian, his death is a great loss to the local religious institution. His student, Mohd Najib Ghazali, 43, who lived and studied at Pondok Ahmadiah since he was seven, said his teacher never complained even when he was ill. He did not want to burden his carers. "He often advised me to not be arrogant and always be humble. He was a loving person, including towards animals."
